Richard J. Lundman (Ph.D. University of Minnesota, 1973) is Professor of Sociology. His research interests are in policing, media representation of crime, and white collar crime. He has recently published research on the effects of officer race/ethnicity on police actions, how race and gender affect newspaper coverage of homicide, and the determinants of murder clearances by homicide detectives. He is currently examining the effects of officer gender on street-level police actions, the factors that explain disproportionate traffic stops of Black drivers by police, and Austin Turk's theory of the structural determinants of superordinate - subordinate relations.
