Dr. Walter S. DeKeseredy (Ph.D. York University, 1988) is Anna Deane Carlson Endowed Chair of Social Sciences, Director of the Research Center on Violence, and Professor of Sociology at West Virginia University. His research focuses on woman abuse, crime in public housing, and criminological theory. His recent books include Violence Against Women: Facts, Myths and Controversies (University of Toronto Press 2011), Contemporary Critical Criminology (Routledge 2010), Advancing Critical Criminology: Theory and Application, co-edited with Barbara Perry (Lexington Books 2006), and Under Siege: Poverty and Crime in a Public Housing Community, co-authored with Martin Schwartz, Shahid Alvi, and E. Andreas Tomaszewski (Lexington Books 2006). In 2004, he was co-recipient, with Martin Schwartz, of The Distinguished Scholar Award from the American Society of Criminology's Division on Women and Crime. Dr. DeKeseredy was also awarded the 2008 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Criminology's Division on Critical Criminology.
