Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Students for Justice Transformation - Organizational Meeting

Vision: Bring awareness to what people involved in the justice system face and bring people together who are passionate about transforming the justice system.

Mission: Generate solutions based on a transformative justice framework and advocate for better educational, occupational, emotional, relational, and health related outcomes for those who have been incarcerated and/or are involved with the justice system.

Goals:  Identify and remove barriers to economic opportunity faced by those with criminal history. Network with businesses that hire people with criminal histories and connect them to those seeking employment. Provide resources for resume building, professionalism, networking, job application and interviewing tips to those who have a criminal history.

Connect those who are reentering society with healthcare and emotional wellness/mental health resources in the community. Advocate for their service and their needs.

Work against disparities in the justice system based on race, socio-economic status, gender, and (dis)ability status. Advocate for transformation in the justice system to addresses these disparities and collaborate with organizations in the community who are a part of this transformation.

Leverage policy, law and collaboration with organizations to address issues within the justice and corrections systems to promote a transformative justice model.

Shore up pathways for restored citizens to enter and complete college and establish the Ohio State University as a national leader by being the first university to place collaborative learning as a design cornerstone in the prison to college pipeline.

Work with OSU leadership to create a manageable and just application and matriculation procedure for applicants with felony convictions. Since our goal is not only getting more restored citizens into college but also their successful completion of college, our student organization will support and mentor those in the prison-to-college pipeline, including building a community that affirms their vibrant participation in student life.
